We love connecting people with Highlands and helping them form strong bonds with their cattle. Whether you’re going to raise them, breed or just want some fluffy lawnmowers, feeling confident in your ability to handle your stock is so important for their welfare, and your safety and enjoyment! If you’ve got cattle (any breed!) already that you’re not sure about, or are thinking about getting some and want to learn how to handle them, we are going to run some low key training sessions at our farm in Korumburra. 10am-2pm
Your hosts: Nathan and Lucy Hersey, cattle breeders and AHCS members.
Special guest: Deniz Karaca of Yatarna Highlands, president of the AHCS and host of the Australian Highland Cattle Talk.
What to expect: We will go through the basics of Highland care, how to do the basics like “getting your animal to move from A to B” with confidence, and show you how to begin training a new animal. We’ll show you using young cattle on the day, but the training can be applied to any age animal and with consistency and positive reinforcement (treats!) you’ll have friendly cattle in no time.
Lunch: will be provided. Highland burgers and drinks. If there are dietary requirements please let us know and we will try to cater where we can but we’re just a farm not a restaurant so if bbq and beer is not your thing maybe pack a lunch box :)
Cost: $100 per adult, children $15.
